OT: Clown loach and Skinny Disease  Budi
 Jul 07, 2004 01:37 PDT

This may be off topic (from planted tank casuals) - but seems to happen a
lot recently.
Skinny disease is a VERY serious disease and very HARD to cure - ICH is a
walk on the park compared to Skinny! Several researchs indicate that this
disease may have been caused by TB or Mycobacterium or Myxobolous (I can't
spelllll)

Yes, Skinny disease is fish TB
Highly contageous!
Some websites even quote that the same bacteria would be able to transfer to
human host - infecting the human with TB!!!

The main symptom is the fish being skinny - with it's bone structure showing
But usually when it reach this point, it is already too late to cure

Medication is - according to some unofficial experiments - involving Maracyn
& Maracyn II for the full 10 days cure. (erythromycin)

So far I've seen it happened to my clown loach, dwarf gourami, & hatchet
fish. (I dose them with alcohol - when they stopped eating and wasting)
Different fish - different immunity - so the TTD (time to death) to each
infected fish is not exact.

I don't know what to expect from an LFS (with all its Experts) - that do not
know about this disease --- but ignorance.

IMO, skinny/TB is a W.M.D to all of my current (and future) beloved fish.

NO, I'm no expert - I'm a beginner - I almost gave up the hobby when I
realized I had to dose my fish with vodka.

Thanks for reading & Good night everyone.
