Hope you have a good trip, Erik! I don't use any plant products regularly.
When I remember I add a couple of capfuls of liquid fert for the leaves, but
that's pretty much it. My substrate is 40% Florabase, 40% Flourite, and 20%
sand/gravel. I have a 130watt powercompact on 10 hrs per day with a Jebo
carbon block CO2 system in a 50gal tank. Stem plants grow so fast I have to
prune them regularly each week. I removed all the swords, wendts, etc.,
because they just got too big. What we're looking for now are plants that
are considered difficult to grow. The "easy" plants just grow too fast!

Zack wrote in with a topic that would be lots of fun: a "plant product
review" discussion, where we looked at different brands of liquid fert,
substrates, lighting, filters, etc. and provided personal feedback on
the products, as well as where to get them at the best prices, things to
avoid, and so on.
I know some of you are running some fantastic planted setups, and we'd
all like to know how you're doing it :)
Well, thought I'd throw that out there. (Meanwhile, are any of you doing
emerse-grown stuff... paladariums or similar? Some of the species we
keep underwater look great emersed. I grew out some Rotala rotundifolia
and it looks quite different:
