I learned the hard way that the little cat Aspidoras pauciradiatus
can't
survive the pH rise from a 20% water change using SF tap water. (It
did
make them spawn, though!) And I recall Al Castro talking about
tetras
never spawning because of just one such episode in their lives. It's
possible we should adjust the pH of new water.

I don't think it was the water change... I do water changes that big all
the time with these guys without a problem. Also, the pH in my tank
doesn't seem to drop much below my tap water, although I don't test it
that frequently (and when I do, I use the cheap Tetra kit).
