The heater in his tank is set a 78 F. He used to be happy at that
temperature...
I think I've had him for over six months (that's a long time with The
Livebearer Killer...). I forgot to mark that date when I got him... I'm
not really sure how old he was when I got him. I think he's between one
and two years old, maybe older...
I read somewhere that Bettas only live two to three years, so it might be
old age... I can't think of anything else... all my equipment is allowed
to dry out between uses on different tanks, and it's been eons since I
added anything to his tank from another tank, so I think that I
introduced a new disease... However, about a month ago some plague went
through my platies in another tank, I don't know... but that had
different symptoms. (I think it was gill flukes or ich along with new
tank syndrome that did them in).
Also, I'm just hoping that he's not dying of something that's my fault.

When you say you've had this Betta for a long time...what's a long
time? Do
you think you have a handle on how old the fish is?
You didn't tell the group what sort of temperature you are dealing
with...but I'll bet that you will hear that 80F is a good place for
Bettas
to be "happy." They will live long when kept cooler but B. splendens
is a
warm water loving fish.
