RE: Dying Betta...?  Jim Atchison

William,

When you say you've had this Betta for a long time...what's a long time? Do
you think you have a handle on how old the fish is?

You didn't tell the group what sort of temperature you are dealing
with...but I'll bet that you will hear that 80F is a good place for Bettas
to be "happy." They will live long when kept cooler but B. splendens is a
warm water loving fish.

Let us know more,

Jim Atchison

--> Any Betta people on here...?
-->
--> I've got a lone male Betta that a friend of mine gave me a long
--> time ago.
--> He lives by himself in a 20-gallon "high" tank. I've noticed that for a
--> while he's had a habit of sitting on the bottom when he's not
--> busy eating
--> or begging, but in the past couple days he's started to lie on
--> the bottom
--> on his side, and hasn't shown much interest in food. I'm not really sure
--> what's wrong. Is he dying of old age or something? The tank is
--> bare-bottomed for easy cleaning, and I change 30-40 % of the water
--> weekly, despite the low fish load.
-->
--> He's a real pet, (he used to jump out to grab a flake held 1/4
--> of an inch
--> above the water!) and I would kinda hate to lose him... :-(
