I'm not sure of the conditions in your 55g... but Alternanthera is pretty undemanding for the most part; stems may not be as red, but the leaves should retain a great deal of that magenta-like color. That floating Ludwigia helminthorrhiza is a neat plant; those white pontoons it puts out are interesting.
