Hi all, My name is Andrew Olson, and I heard about this list from Greg Tong. I live in San Francisco, and I recently set up a 29-gal tank I used to run many years ago on the other coast. I have a pair of swordtails and a small blue gourami, and as far as plants, a couple of bunches of water sprite, an anubias barteri v. nana (which I split into two plants so the leaves could get more light; it looks much better now), and a fairly sad-looking java fern which I am hoping will perk up. The tank is lit with 60W of wide-spectrum fluorescent light. I'm planning to add a DIY yeast CO2 system in the next week or two. I'd like to add a few more plants to the tank and was hoping to find some sources for cuttings (more java fern, perhaps some java moss, and I'm open to other suggestions); if you have any to offer, please get in touch with me and we can work something out. Thanks! Finally, I have a question: what is the scientific name for water sprite? (bought it at Nippon Goldfish, if that helps at all). I looked through the Tropica web site to try and identify it, and I thought that the picture of Ceratophyllum demersum looked pretty close, but the description says that it is a rootless plant and my water sprites have started to shoot out some roots. Thanks; looking forward to hearing from you and perhaps meeting in person at the SF Aquarium Society. -- Andrew |
